About This Project
At Shivah Web Tech, we were commissioned to design and develop a premium Shopify e-commerce store for a handcrafted furniture brand specialising in high-end, natural wood slab pieces — from black walnut beds and live edge dining tables to epoxy resin coffee tables and custom bespoke commissions. This was not a standard product store build. Selling handcrafted, high-value furniture online presents a unique set of challenges that generic e-commerce templates simply cannot solve — challenges around showcasing craftsmanship convincingly, building trust with international buyers who cannot physically inspect a piece before purchasing, and managing the complexity of custom orders, freight shipping, and global currency differences.
Our team built a fully custom Shopify store that addressed every one of these challenges — delivering a scalable, high-performance furniture e-commerce website with over 1,000 products, advanced filtering, global shipping infrastructure, multi-currency and location support, live customer reviews, and a custom order request system. The result is a store that not only looks exceptional but converts international browsers into confident, paying customers.
The Client’s Challenge
The client was an established handcrafted furniture maker with a strong reputation offline but a weak digital presence. Their existing website was a basic catalogue — static, slow, not mobile-optimised, and with no real purchasing capability. They had been fulfilling custom orders manually through email and phone, which was time-consuming, inconsistent, and severely limited their ability to reach buyers outside of their immediate geography. They knew they had a product that could sell globally — premium, sustainably sourced wood furniture handcrafted to the highest standard — but they lacked the digital infrastructure to make that happen.
The specific challenges our team needed to solve were significant. First, with over 1,000 products spanning multiple categories — beds, dining tables, coffee tables, desks, shelving, and decorative pieces — the store needed a powerful filtering and search system that helped buyers find exactly what they were looking for quickly. Second, because each piece of furniture is shipped in custom-built crates to protect it in transit, the store needed a freight shipping integration that could calculate accurate shipping quotes based on product dimensions, weight, and destination country. Third, many of the client’s most valuable sales came from custom commissions — buyers who wanted a specific wood species, size, or finish — and the store needed a structured way to capture and manage those requests without relying on back-and-forth emails.
What We Built
Our Shopify development team designed and built the entire store from the ground up — custom theme, custom functionality, and a carefully considered user experience that reflects the premium nature of the products. Here is a full breakdown of what we delivered:
Our Design & Development Approach
Our design team approached this project with a clear philosophy — the store needed to feel as premium and carefully crafted as the furniture it was selling. We developed a custom Shopify theme built entirely from scratch, with warm earthy tones, generous whitespace, and full-width photography that showcases the natural grain, texture, and finish of each wood piece in extraordinary detail. Every product page was designed to tell the story of the piece — where the wood came from, how it was crafted, what makes it unique — because in the premium furniture market, that story is a significant part of what the buyer is purchasing.
The advanced filtering system was one of the most technically complex features of the build. With 1,000+ products spanning multiple wood species, sizes, finishes, and price points, we built a custom Shopify filter solution using metafields and JavaScript that delivers instant, no-reload filtering results — allowing buyers to narrow down from over a thousand products to exactly what they need in seconds. This dramatically reduces the friction that typically causes visitors to abandon large product catalogues and leave without purchasing.
The global shipping integration required custom development work to connect the store with the client’s freight carrier and calculate accurate crate shipping quotes in real time at checkout. Because furniture pieces vary significantly in size and weight — a small epoxy resin side table ships very differently from a king-size black walnut bed frame — the integration needed to handle complex dimensional weight calculations and present buyers with accurate, transparent shipping costs before they reached the payment stage. Transparency at this stage was critical for reducing cart abandonment on high-value orders.
Building Trust for High-Value International Sales
Selling a $3,000 handcrafted dining table to a buyer in another country — someone who cannot visit a showroom, touch the wood, or meet the maker — requires a level of trust that most e-commerce stores simply do not invest in building. Our team designed every element of the VisionForge store with this trust challenge in mind. Live customer reviews with verified purchase badges are displayed prominently on product pages and the homepage. Detailed photography shows products from multiple angles, in real room settings, with close-up shots of grain patterns and joinery. The custom crate shipping process is explained with images and video, reassuring buyers that their investment will arrive safely regardless of how far it needs to travel.
The multi-currency and location detection system was another significant trust driver. When an international buyer lands on the store and immediately sees prices in their own currency — without needing to manually switch a setting — it signals that this business is set up to serve them professionally. Combined with localised shipping information and transparent customs and duty guidance for major markets, the store communicates clearly that buying internationally from this maker is a straightforward, low-risk experience.
Why This Project Stands Out
This furniture e-commerce website on Shopify is a strong demonstration of what Shivah Web Tech delivers when we build for premium, niche markets. It is not enough to simply put products on a page and add a checkout button. Selling handcrafted, high-value furniture globally requires a store that does the heavy lifting of trust-building, discovery facilitation, and purchase confidence — all simultaneously, and all seamlessly. The custom theme, the advanced filtering, the freight shipping integration, the custom order system, and the multi-currency support are not separate features — they are a cohesive system designed around the specific journey of a high-intent international furniture buyer.
The client now has a scalable digital platform capable of supporting their growth into international markets — one that handles the complexity of global commerce automatically, presents their craftsmanship beautifully, and converts visitors into customers with confidence.
